Connectors and Terminals

  • Do not let the wires right above the manifold, as the heat will reduce the unit’s lifespan and lead to a higher voltage demand for the ignition system.
  • Be careful when using ignition amplifiers, especially aftermarket ones, as those lead to ozone buildup. It’s a factor that shortens the ignition distributor’s life.


The optispark is exposed to moisture from various sources because of its placement. This unit is located on the front of the engine, the back of the water pump, and the top of the crank snout.

Therefore, driving into deep water areas can be dangerous to this unit. Like other units, it can have a serious problem if the water penetrates into the structure.

Wetness makes the bearings more fragile, especially when the drive mechanism is distorted by misalignment.

Later, if a bearing breakdown appears, the engine oil cooler leaks out of the area, and the opti may become saturated with coolant water.

As a result, the accurate ability of the optical sensors may corrode because of moisture buildup inside, leading to a broken Opti Spark.
